Upsurge in the Struggle of the Palestinians

August 3, 2017

Recent events in Palestine once again provide a glimpse of the unconquerable spirit of the Palestinian people and their revolutionary struggle. In July, thousands of Palestinians revolted in Jerusalem against three-four years of gradually increasing repressive measures imposed on al-Aqsa Mosque, aimed at turning the holy site into a virtual prison. As Palestinians rallied outside the Mosque,  Palestinians in Nablus, Ramallah and other areas organized mass demonstrations against the Israeli army and its fascist program of expansionism and collective reprisals. The zionist occupiers killed at least 6 Palestinians. More than 900 Palestinians were wounded and dozens more arrested as Israeli forces came out, prepared to crush Palestinian protests under an iron heel.

However the Palestinian people faced the tear gas, rubber bullets, stun grenades, and live bullets of the Israeli aggressors with their bare hands and stones.

These struggles are a continuation of the struggles which have developed since October 2015 as the Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are stiffening their resistance to the zionist occupiers. The whole of the Palestinian population is rising up in mass struggles against the Israeli aggressors and their despotic military rule over the occupied territories of the West Bank and Gaza.

Since 2014, the zionist army has killed over 2,500 Palestinians and wounded well over 30,000. Currently, Israeli military courts are imprisoning an estimated 7,000 Palestinians.

Since the first day of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights as a result of its aggressive war of June 1967, a brutal military dictatorship has been imposed on the Palestinian people in an attempt to crush their national liberation struggle and incorporate the West Bank into “Greater Israel.” The Israeli Army, avidly assisted by the paramilitary zionist settlements in the West Bank, subjects the West Bank Palestinians to murder, torture, imprisonment and exile.

Since 1967, all supreme political and military authority in the West Bank and Gaza resides in the Military Area Commander responsible to the Israeli Defense Ministry. The military government has granted the West Bank and Gaza different degrees of “autonomy” even while the real power remains in the hands of the U.S.-Israeli colonizers. Even in Gaza, where Israel withdrew its settlements, the Palestinians are denied the right to their own army even while the U.S. and Israeli aggressors continue to encircle it militarily.

In the West Bank it is estimated that 60% of the adult male population has spent time in Israeli prisons or military detention centers. Israeli occupation and military rule also routinely relies on such Hitlerite methods as collective punishment and indiscriminate terror to create an atmosphere of intimidation.

The goal of the Israeli occupiers is to annex the West Bank and incorporate it into the state of Israel. While the land of the native inhabitants is confiscated by the military authorities, hundreds of zionist settlements have been set up in the West Bank since 1967. (Due to consolidation, there are currently 130 separate settlements in the West Bank.) While the Palestinian natives of the West Bank live under military rule, the 400,000 Israelis living in these zionist settlements are legally recognized as citizens of the state of Israel. The zionist settlements are being used by the Israeli government to create “faits accomplis” as a justification for the permanent annexation of the West Bank. At the same time, the settlements serve as military outposts for the Israeli Defense Forces, carrying out savage terror and intimidation against the indigenous population.

Israel’s savage occupation and terror in the West Bank and its program for the annexation of the West Bank and east Jerusalem are further evidence of the fact that the zionist state is founded and thrives on the blood of the Palestinian people. The state of Israel, founded as an outpost of British imperialism and maintained today as a military fort for U.S. imperialism, has always dreamed, in the words of its first Prime Minister, Ben-Gurion, of controlling all the land “from the Nile River to the Euphrates.”

Today, the expansionist aims of the state of Israel mesh nicely with the imperialist ambitions of the U.S. capitalist class to keep the entire Middle Eastern region in a constant state of war in order to weaken the Arab nations and keep them dependent on arms and political alliance with the U.S., to slaughter the revolutionary Arab peoples, and extend the U.S. monopolies’ economic domination over the oil-rich Middle East.

The U.S. supplies Israel with most of its weapons, vast amounts of economic aid, loans and credits, and directs its expansionist wars.

However the unyielding and ever-growing struggle of the Palestinian people, a people steeled in the fight against so many enemies who seek to trample underfoot their national rights and homeland, will certainly smash the plans of the zionist occupiers and their masters, U.S. imperialism.

It is the duty of the American working class and people to staunchly suupport the national liberation movement of the Palestinian people and to target the bloody alliance between U.S. imperialism and Israeli zionism.

Victory Certainly Belongs to the Palestinian People and Their National Liberation Movement!

Death to Israeli Zionism!

U.S. Imperialism, Get Out of the Middle East!
