Message of Condolence Over the Passing of
Kim Jong Il

On December 17, the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, the National Defense Commission of the DPRK, the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and the Cabinet of the DPRK announced that Kim Jong Il, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, passed away at 8:30 am on December 17, 2011.

Message from the Workers Party, U.S.A.

We express our deepest sadness over the sudden passing of Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, Chairman of the National Defense Commission, and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army. We send our condolences to his successor Kim Jong Un, the Workers' Party of Korea and the whole Korean people. We grieve with you and we stand with you.

We remember with great respect the life of Kim Jong Il who fought unsparingly to his last breath for the cause of peace, national independence and social progress. Kim Jong Il led the DPRK during a time in which U.S. imperialism maintained – as it continues to do – a state of war against Korea and carried out all-around economic, political, diplomatic, cultural and military pressure against the DPRK in the north of Korea while occupying the south with tens of thousands of troops. In these conditions, under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, the DPRK continuously advanced, built up an independent and sovereign state with a modern, self-reliant economy and an independent foreign policy. So too, the DPRK continued to serve as the secure base for the Korean people's struggle for national reunification. In the van of the Korean revolution, Kim Jong Il led the DPRK in resisting savage aggression and in placing itself in the forefront of the struggle of the world's people who are building a global front against imperialist aggression and in defense of peace, national independence and social progress.

We are aware that our words could never express the profound sorrow which you are experiencing. But we have full confidence that the Workers' Party of Korea and the Korean people will turn this sorrow into strength and courage and continue to advance along the path of struggle for a prosperous future, against war and imperialism and for a world of peace and friendship based on the independence and equality of all nations, a world in which the people themselves are the sovereign power. The Workers Party, U.S.A. will always stand with you in this struggle.

National Executive Committee Workers Party, U.S.A.
