U.S. Imperialism Escalates and Extends its Intervention and Wars

May 23, 2004

U.S. imperialism continues not only to escalate its war against Iraq but also to step up its aggression and interference against countries and peoples across the globe.

Just within the last few weeks, U.S. imperialism:

- has tightened its encirclement and stepped up its attacks against the population of Karbala, Najaf, Kufa, and other cities across Iraq. AC-130 helicopter gunships, as well as tanks and warplanes, are regularly being used against heavily populated areas. In Karbala alone, entire city blocks have been destroyed and at least 120 Iraqis killed in the last few weeks;

- organized its police dog , the state of Israel, to step up its genocidal war against the Palestinian people. For example, on May 18, the Israeli army invaded the Palestinian city of Rafah, killing at least 50 people and driving thousands from their homes;

- imposed new economic and political sanctions on Syria with the aim of bringing about "regime change" in that country;

- imposed a series of new economic sanctions and other measures aimed at overthrowing the current economic and political system in Cuba;

- stepped up its campaign of destabilization and counter-revolution against the government of Venezuela;

- invaded Haiti to overthrow the constitutional government and impose direct U.S. military rule.

And more. Within the last 2 1/2 years, U.S. imperialism has also invaded and continues to occupy Afghanistan, dispatched more counter-insurgency troops to Colombia and the Philippines, increased its pressure and war preparations against North Korea, Iran and other countries, etc.

The plain facts are that U.S. imperialism is already waging wars on every continent and that it is preparing to escalate these wars and start new ones. No people or country is safe. Bush's "preemptive doctrine" declares that the U.S. will attack any country, at any time, in order to insure U.S. domination over the entire world.

This war program arises from the very basis of the capitalist-imperialist system -- from the fact that the U.S. monopoly capitalist class lives not only by exploiting the working people at home but also by superexploiting and enslaving peoples the world over.

In short, the world is at a turning point. U.S. imperialism is seeking to impose a permanent state of war on the peoples and a "new world order" of colonialism and militarism.

Thus, in the course of advancing the urgent struggles against the war in Iraq and against every aggressive step taken by the U.S. government, the people must build up the force capable of defeating imperialism and its war program once and for all.

We must build and strengthen an independent political movement which can defeat the parties of war and bring to power a peace government

- - a government which ends U.S. intervention and aggression in all its form, withdraws all U.S. troops stationed abroad and recognizes the sovereignty of every country.
