Statement of the Workers Party, U.S.A.

Oppose U.S.-Israeli Aggression!
Support the Palestinian Liberation Struggle!

For more than 60 years, U.S. imperialism and its gendarme, the state of Israel, have waged a war of terror and genocide against the Palestinian people. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed and hundreds of thousands forced out of their homeland and into exile. The national homeland of the Palestinians has been usurped by force of arms and the Palestinian people live under the guns of the U.S.-backed Israeli occupiers.

The state of Israel, as always with the full backing of the U.S. government, is escalating  its war against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories of the West Bank and Gaza.

–Almost daily during the first part of the month Israeli military forces launched incursions into West Bank towns, going house to house, beating and kidnapping residents.  For example, on November 1, Israeli soldiers invaded the towns of Hebron, Bethlehem, Tulkarem and  Ramallah, broke into several homes and kidnapped eleven residents. On November 7, Israeli soldiers invaded the village of Hares, demolished two homes and injured twenty residents.

–On November 1, Israeli military forces desecrated a Mosque outside of the West Bank town of Hebron.  On November 10, Israeli soldiers fired dozens of gas bombs, concussion grenades, rubber-coated metal bullets, and live ammunition at residents attending a funeral in the West Bank town of Beit Ummar.  On November 13, Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition at youths when invading a school in east Jenin in the West Bank.

–On November 14, after a Palestinian military leader, Ahmed al-Jabari, was killed by an Israeli missile strike on his home in Gaza, the Isreali military office used twitter to announce that they had launched a new military offensive. Ahmed al-Jabari's son, brother and three other relatives were also killed in the attack.

–On November 17, Israel launched a massive air assault on Gaza city.

–Between November 14 and 17, Israeli air and sea assaults resulted in the deaths of 39 people in Gaza.

These Israeli offensives comes at a time when Israel has blockaded the economy of Palestine in Gaza and is trying to starve the people into submission. At the same time, Israel continues with its program of permanently annexing large sections of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, expanding settlement activity and building its Apartheid Wall to carve up Palestine and prevent the creation of a viable Palestinian state.

All these crimes of the Israeli aggressors are also the crimes of the U.S. government. While the Obama administration claims that it "wants peace" but can do nothing in the face of the "extremism and violence of both sides," the truth is that the Israeli government cannot and does not act without the approval of U.S. imperialism.

As in the past, it is U.S. imperialism which is financing and directing Israeli aggression. On November 15-16, the U.S. Congress, in a unanimous vote in the Senate and the House, passed a special resolution supporting Israel's war.  In a press conference on November 18, Obama issued cynical threats of an all out Israeli invasion of Gaza.  Over the years, the U.S. has supplied Israel with more than $100 billion in aid. No, U.S. imperialism can never and will never "bring the two sides together" because the U.S. has not only chosen the Israeli side, it is the Israeli side. Israel could well be called the 51st state of the U.S. – it is a U.S. military base anchoring U.S. imperialism's interests in the strategic Middle East. It is a dagger stabbed in the heart of the Arab peoples by the U.S. oil monopolies who want to maintain their domination of the region and its vast oil wealth.

Israel's ongoing war against Palestine is part and parcel of U.S. imperialism's program for world domination.  As part of its strategic plan to recolonize and assert its domination over the whole of the Middle East, U.S. imperialism wants to stabilize its number one aggressive base – the state of Israel – by crushing the Palestinian resistance.

But the Palestinian resistance cannot and will not be crushed!

Rather, it will continue to provide inspiration to the peoples everywhere and strengthen its role in the struggles of the Arab peoples and the peoples of the whole world to defeat U.S. imperialism.

The Palestinian people continue to declare "from generation to generation, until final liberation!"  Their invincibility comes from the necessity, the humanity, of their cause.

The just demands of the Palestinian people include an end to Israeli military occupation, the removal of Israeli settlements from Arab east Jerusalem as well as from the West Bank, and the return of these lands to the Palestinian people. We must support the struggle of the Palestinian people to regain all their inviolable national rights, including the right to their own genuinely sovereign and independent state in their historic homeland.

The American people must shoulder their responsibility.  We must resolutely work to break the links between U.S. imperialism and the Israeli aggressors. We must demand the cutoff of all U.S. economic and military aid to Israel.

These demands are part of the struggle to assert the political will of the American people – our deep aspiration for a world of peace in which the sovereignty of every nation is recognized – in opposition to and struggle against the monopoly capitalist class which lives by war and colonialism.
